Light Streams through a Swelling Canopy of Woven Bamboo in China’s Karst Mountains

This work by Lllab. Architects in the Karst Mounts of China was constructed for the theatrical performance of Impression Sanjie Liu. The intricate design of the canopies, created by a series of overlapping lines, reminded me of a few Gestalt studies I saw in class. The canopies are created using entirely organic materials, hand woven by artisans without the use of glue or nails. The seamlessness and unique organic design of the canopies mirrors the seamlessness a lot of digital design projects aim to achieve.
