In InstaCOVID Drawings, Andrew Sendor draws different posts from his Instagram feed from the past few months of quarantine which reminded me of our discussion in class on the development of Instagram into something more professional, more text-based, and used now for discussion of social justice and political issues. These drawings are really intimate yet distant because of how they’re framed as Instagram posts and I thought it was really interesting how he brings back the fast-paced new nature of Instagram to these graphite drawings which take time to process and appreciate. I also appreciated how these drawings were a commentary on COVID as well, because I’ve noticed less people posting on Instagram as we spend more time with ourselves in our homes.
