GIF IT UP is an annual competition that “challenges people to use digitised cultural heritage material to produce unique GIFs and share them online. ” Participants are encouraged to use cultural archives as the groundwork for their GIFs, whether it be film, photography, drawing or painting. The GIF medium in conjunction with graphic history is a compelling new way to reanimate cultural heritage and decontextualize collective memory in a 21st century context, underscoring current events and societal movements. The competition takes place from Oct 1-31.
