I thought this blog post from Jonah Kay was extremely relevant to the animated posters we’re working on and I really appreciated how Kay talked about the use of advertisements for various activist movements throughout history. It was interesting to see how graphic designers take various approaches to these advertisements such as taking certain graphic imagery and making advertisements that appeared to be standard but actually made certain modifications to draw attention to various issues.
Kay also talked about how nowadays, there is a consistent template to these instagram visuals: centered text, a clean font, and a plain background. By making simple visuals, we may remove all superfluous information and convey only the most urgent information which I will definitely keep in mind for my animated poster.
